The Church was a hive of activity on Saturday 24th September with the Induction Service of new Minister, Jonathan Morley. Over 160 people attended the event which saw people coming from as far as Manchester, Retford and Lincoln to join in the celebration with the members of Sutton Elms church. Members from the community and other local churches also attended and there was a great sense of excitement for the future.
This begins a new chapter for the church which has been without a minister for over two years. Linda Barker, Church Secretary, commented “we had a great day of coming together – it felt like a wedding! And we are so excited to have found a new minister with a real gift for speaking to people from the heart.”
The service was led by John Hall, who has served as Moderator, with Dianne Tidball, Regional Minister and team leader of the East Midlands Baptist Association (EMBA), sharing some encouraging thoughts for both the congregation and Jonathan to consider moving forward. Worship was led by Rachel, Jonathan’s wife, with members from the church, previous churches and family joining in.
“We wanted the service to be a crossing point from old things into new and as such, we involved people from the past and present in that, while reflecting who God has called us to be. We are so thankful to God for all that He has done in preparing Sutton Elms and leading us to this place. The people at Sutton Elms are amazing and we have felt really welcome here. We look forward to all that God will do in this community and we look to Him, the one who is able to do more than we can ask, think or imagine!” said Jonathan, who was clearly impacted by the day’s events
Ellen Price, Regional Minister, presided over the Induction charge, where Jonathan’s previous Senior Leaders, John and Margaret Brewster (The Well Retford Baptist Church), along with the Deacons of Sutton Elms and Jonathan’s parents movingly spent time praying for Jonathan and Rachel.
